Solar FlexRack Simplifies Wire Management With Innovative Z-Purlin System
Solar FlexRack, the most innovative photovoltaic rack mounting solution on the market today, offers another cost- and labor-saving feature that sets the product even further apart from its competitors. The use of Z-purlin perforated horizontal rails on Solar FlexRack allows the integration of a wire management system into every rack at no added cost. This system permits wiring to be run on any one of three different levels of the rack.
With the Solar FlexRack’s unique hybrid aluminum and steel construction, the aluminum vertical rails include slotted channels along their length. These channels allow for the use of cable clips that can be snapped in place anywhere along its length to hold and manage the solar panels’ cable whips.
The system’s unique design makes possible several different options for organizing and securing the wiring:
- Special extruded aluminum slots along vertical rails allow for optional cable clips to be attached anywhere, North/South, to keep wires secure.
- The panel string cabling can be laid in any of the East/West horizontal Z-purlins. Typically they are run from rack to rack along the row to the combiner boxes.
- An exclusive SFR zip-tie system can be used to bundle and secure string cables to the East/West horizontal Z-purlin.
- Bolt caps are provided to cover bolt heads along the East/West horizontal Z-purlin.
- The Z-purlin is slotted for draining.
- If the gap between racks requires support, a Solar Snake open wire trough can be added to span the gap between racks to support the cable.
Solar FlexRack is a completely bonded and conductive system per NEC codes and has been ETL tested to the UL 2703 and 1703 specifications.
Further efficiencies in erecting a solar array are made possible by the patent-pending SFR Smart Clip and Smart Bonding Clip, which allow fast and easy installation of PV modules on the Solar FlexRack.
- The SFR Smart Clip, used as end clips, features unique mechanical spring-action hardware pre-assembled on the clip to hold framed modules in place by constant applied pressure. It eliminates long-reach and re-torque scenarios and the need to work above modules.
-
The SFR Smart Bonding Clip, used as mid clips to bond two modules at once, pierces the anodic surface of the module when torqued down to create a bond from module to rack to post, eliminating the need for ground straps.
