Ambient Fuels Welcomes Miranda Ballentine, Founder of the Clean Energy Buyers Association, to its Board of Directors

Ambient Fuels, a leader in America’s clean hydrogen economy, announced the appointment of Miranda Ballentine, founder of the Clean Energy Buyers Association and its CEO from 2018 to 2023, to its Board of Directors.

“Hydrogen electrolyzers allow us to put America’s vast supply of solar and wind energy to work in more places throughout the economy,” said Jacob Susman, CEO of Ambient Fuels. “Miranda’s deep expertise in energy, infrastructure and policy will help drive our mission to expand domestic electrolyzer production and make more clean hydrogen here in the U.S. We’re especially interested in working with customers seeking low-carbon jet fuel to reduce their air travel emissions.”

Having served as a top Pentagon executive and a global director for a Fortune #1 company, Miranda brings 25 years of leadership experience in retail, defense, energy, utilities, aerospace, and infrastructure.

Miranda was the inaugural CEO of the Clean Energy Buyers Alliance, a trade organization representing 400+ organizations who collectively had 14M+ employees and $8T+ annual revenues, where she partnered with Fortune 20 companies and their supply chains to unlock zero-carbon energy. She gained support from major NGOs such as RMI, Business for Social Responsibility, World Resources Institute, and the World Wildlife Fund.

As Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Energy from 2014 to 2017, she managed a $9 billion annual energy budget and oversaw critical energy security programs.

Ballentine served as Walmart’s Director of Sustainability for Global Renewable Energy & Sustainable Facilities from 2008 to 2014. There she led initiatives to advance the company’s 100% renewable energy goal, identifying over $1 billion in potential energy savings and 9 million metric tons of avoided emissions. She also co-led Walmart’s Supplier GHG Innovation Initiative, helping to set the world’s first goal to reduce supply chain emissions.

As an Ambient Fuels board member, Ballentine will now help the firm navigate regulatory landscapes, accelerate clean hydrogen deployment, and develop strategic partnerships with corporate stakeholders looking to reduce their “Scope 3” emissions from air travel using Sustainable Aviation Fuel.

“Miranda’s long track record of leadership in large-scale energy programs and cross-sector collaboration will help us build understanding and support for the hydrogen economy, reinforce our Made-in-the-USA supply chain, and scale more rapidly,” said Susman.

“Hydrogen has an essential role to play in America’s industrial strength and national security,” Ballentine added. “I’m joining Ambient Fuels in leading the way to a robust domestic supply chain for hydrogen electrolyzers and the associated equipment. We’ll help American businesses remain globally competitive and create high-quality jobs as we build out this critical infrastructure for America’s energy future.”
