Port of Corpus Christi Opens Harbor Wind

Revolution Energy, the Port of Corpus Christi, and U.S. Bank were proud to celebrate the official opening of the first phase of the Harbor Wind Farm. The event was held on Monday, March 12th, at the Harbor Wind Farm. The project was developed on the north side of Port Corpus Christi Inner Harbor. Revolution Energy’s Harbor Wind Farm is known to be one of the first wind energy farms located on industrial port property in North America.

Revolution Energy began developing the Harbor Wind Project in 2006. The project was financed using new markets and renewable energy tax credit financing provided by U.S. Bank and a commitment from Revolution Energy. The project, which was scheduled to begin operations in early 2012, began transmitting power to the grid last month. The construction of the project created the following impact to the area’s economy:

  • A total of six wind turbines installed
  • Total cost of $20 Million
  • Over $7 Million for local economy for construction related activity
  • 6 months construction period, which created over 50 jobs

The Harbor Wind farm is generating 30,000,000 kWh/year of clean energy, equal to the electricity needs of nearly 2,500 homes.
