IGS Solar Completes First Array for Unilever's North America Headquarters
IGS Solar has announced completion of its rooftop solar array for Unilever, a transnational consumer goods company whose products are sold in 190 countries worldwide and include food, beverages, home care and personal care products. Working with IGS Solar as owner and operator of the project, the array will create over 500,000 kWh of electricity per year.
The solar array, consisting of approximately 1,200 panels on the rooftop of Unilever North America's newly renovated headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, started producing electricity in April. Sized at approximately 400kW, the array is the first array installed for Unilever in the United States, and will be large enough to supply a portion of the electricity consumption for the building. According to EPA's calculations, the electricity generated will reduce the equivalent amount of CO2 produced by burning more than 400,000 pounds of coal annually.
"It has been an honor to partner with Unilever to play a role in helping them reach their noble 'Sustainable Living Plan' goal of reducing their environmental impact by 50% before 2030," stated Nathan Jovanelly, Regional Manager of IGS Solar.
Through an agreement between Unilever and IGS, Unilever has zero capital or ongoing maintenance expenses, but still gets to enjoy the benefits of clean, renewable energy produced by the sun.
