NACFE and Ampcontrol Release Smart Charging Report for Electric Truck Depots

The North America Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) and Ampcontrol are proud to release the report Smart Charging for Electric Depots, a joint document that discusses one of the most urgent questions in fleet electrification: How can commercial fleets scale electric trucks efficiently, affordably, and reliably?

Building on findings from Run on Less – Electric DEPOT, which tracked over 250 electric trucks in real-world fleet operations. The report outlines how smart charging and energy management systems can unlock fleet scalability by:

  • Reducing infrastructure and operational costs.
  • Managing demand charges and TOU rates.
  • Integrating solar, battery storage, and telematics for resilience.

“At Ampcontrol, we’ve spent seven years building smart charging solutions, from simple use cases to megawatt-scale truck depots. Smart charging is the key to making electric fleets scalable. This report is our way of helping fleets navigate new technologies and difficult decisions when deploying EV charging sites” says Joachim Lohse, CEO at Ampcontrol

“With Run on Less and this report, we spotlight early adopters leading the way in electric trucking. NACFE exists to help the industry accelerate smart, sustainable innovation—and this collaboration with Ampcontrol does exactly that.” says Mike Roeth, Executive Director at NACFE.
