Subject: NECEC Announces Clean Energy Company of the Year Award Winner SparkCharge
SparkCharge, a mobile electric vehicle (EV) charging service enjoying a meteoric rise from its start as an idea in a college dorm room, has garnered the Clean Energy Company of the Year award from NECEC (Northeast Clean Energy Council and NECEC Institute). The Somerville, Mass.-based company took home the award at NECEC's 2022 Green Tie Gala Awards, gaining praise both for its innovative technology and its deep commitment to delivering social impact.
In 2016 SparkCharge was a startup venture taking part in the Cleantech Open Northeast accelerator program (run out of NECEC). The company has been built around a portable, modular, ultra-fast charger that turns the standard model of fueling up your vehicle on its ear. All you need to do is use an app and they can deliver an EV charge to you where and when you want it.
Since then it has branched out to San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles and Dallas, and founder and CEO Joshua Aviv successfully pitched his company on CNBC's Shark Tank.
"This is a company that is built to tackle the 21st century," stated NECEC President Joe Curtatone. "Josh Aviv embodies everything an entrepreneur should be: hard-working, inspirational, successful, energetic, open-minded, and humorous. In addition, as a minority-owned business, SparkCharge prioritizes hiring individuals with diverse backgrounds. They have a woman heading up their engineering department. Their current field technician team is 75% people of color, and 100% come from communities classified as disadvantaged. This is a company that's looking to deliver impact well beyond its own bottom line."
SparkCharge got its start when it created the Roadie, the world's first portable, ultra-fast and modular charging system. Since the SparkCharge charging systems are compact, they can be delivered to an EV owner on-demand via electric sprinter vans. SparkCharge has also launched the Currently app to make it convenient to the end user in scheduling where and when to charge up their vehicle. Currently gives electric vehicle owners the freedom to have their cars charged ultra-fast, anywhere with the push of a button. SparkCharge's solutions are scalable, they end range anxiety (which is a barrier to entry for many would-be EV drivers), and they can grow EV charging infrastructure faster at a fraction of the cost.
