RES to Develop Eigg Mountain Wind Farm Under Nova Scotia’s Green Choice Program
RES, the world’s largest independent renewable company, is proud to announce the selection of the Eigg Mountain Wind Project in Nova Scotia as part of the province’s Green Choice Program. The project will be developed in partnership with Paq’tnkek and Pictou Landing First Nations who have signed a memorandum of understanding with RES. The project will contribute significantly to Nova Scotia’s clean energy transition, providing new jobs, investment into the community, and sustainable power to the grid. Once constructed by RES it will have 25 turbines with a combined installed capacity of up to 150 MW.
The Green Choice Program is the single largest addition of clean electricity in Nova Scotia’s history and will move the province closer to its goal of 80% renewables by 2030. Six wind farms, including Eigg Mountain, were chosen through a competitive independent procurement process, and will supply over 2,000 GW hours of renewable energy annually by 2028, supporting 11 large-scale electricity customers.
Peter Clibbon, Senior Vice President of Development, Canada at RES, said: “We’re proud to be working with First Nations on this project to ensure it delivers lasting benefits for wider local community and Nova Scotia’s energy system through the program. Our commitment goes beyond providing clean, affordable electricity—we’re focused on creating local jobs, strengthening the regional economy, and maintaining open, meaningful engagement with the host community as we work shoulder to shoulder to shape the best project possible, together.”
The project, near Connors Mountain Road in Antigonish County, will generate substantial employment during construction and provide skilled operations and maintenance roles once operational. RES will construct the project using its own integrated engineering, procurement and construction team.
RES has been a leading force in Canada’s renewable energy industry for 20 years, with a portfolio that includes over 4,000 MW of wind, solar, and energy storage projects developed or constructed. The company’s expertise spans the full lifecycle of renewable energy projects, from development and construction to operations and maintenance (O&M) and asset management.
