Solar + Storage Project Dedication
In a fitting way to mark the beginning of summer, on June 22, the Acton Water District, EDF Renewables and Standard Solar celebrated the commercial operation of the 4.69 megawatt (MW) solar and 4 MWh storage Lawsbrook Project in Acton, Massachusetts.
Speakers at the event were: Chris Allen, District Manager for Acton Water District, Rod Viens, General Manager, Distribution-Scale Power for EDF Renewables, Eric Partyka, Director of Business Development for Standard Solar
The Lawsbrook Project will benefit the Town of Plymouth and the Water District with clean energy, discounted power, and lease revenues from the solar and storage system. The system is estimated to generate 5,866 MWh of clean energy each year, enough to power 800 average Massachusetts homes. Since the project will also benefit the state by adding clean power to the bulk electrical system and discharging clean power during on-peak evening hours, reducing the need for reliance on non-renewable power sources during those times, it received an award from the state's Solar Massachusetts Renewable Targets (SMART) program.
The Lawsbrook Project is built on land owned by the Acton Water District that was previously disturbed from gravel extraction and is part of the larger W.R. Grace Superfund Site. Standard Solar, a leader in the development, funding and long-term ownership and operation of commercial and community solar assets, acquired the project from EDF Renewables North America.
