Bachmann Secures 145 MW Clipper Controls Retrofit Project in Utah

Bachmann electronic GmbH, an Austrian-based, privately owned, manufacturer of automation solutions, secured a 145 MW controls retrofit project. Longroad Energy awarded Bachmann with a comprehensive controls retrofit contract for the 58 Clipper turbines located at the Milford I wind farm in Milford, Utah.

The project is comprised of completely replacing the existing control system with the Bachmann M1 platform and provided new turbine control software. Additionally, each turbine will be retrofitted with an integrated Condition Monitoring System and the site's SCADA platform will be upgraded to Bachmann's Wind Power SCADA. The project will kick off during the first quarter of this year and will be completed by year end.

"Being that we are all working in the green energy space, it's exciting to find a partner that shares our passion for keeping these legacy turbines in operation by breathing new life into the machines," says Brian Hill, General Manager of Bachmann electronic Corp. "With the steel already in the ground, the cost for upgrading the controls system is really just a drop in the bucket when compared to a turbine replacement. This is especially true when you consider the performance improvements achieved through modern control systems are not only aimed at increasing production, but extending the operational life and increasing safety. We're looking forward to a successful deployment with our partners at Longroad and the opportunity to further the effort to keep these turbines running."
