ICYMI: SEWC President Katharine Kollins Highlights Importance of Offshore Wind in North Carolina’s Energy Future
On Thursday, December 12th, in an op-ed for WRAL News, Southeastern Wind Coalition (SEWC) President Katharine Kollins highlighted the need for Duke Energy to facilitate the development of offshore wind in North Carolina in order to meet rising energy demand and bring good-paying jobs to the state.
Offshore wind has the potential to be a foundational pillar of North Carolina’s energy mix, and will play a key role in meeting rising electricity demand and establishing America’s energy independence. By working with developers and other key industry stakeholders now, Duke Energy can position North Carolina as a leader in American offshore wind while stabilizing electricity costs and creating secure, well-paying jobs.
“The success of offshore wind in North Carolina will largely depend on how effectively these pieces come together and state-level actions and local support will remain crucial for continued progress,” SEWC President Katharine Kollins writes in the piece. “With the right approach, the state can achieve its carbon reduction goals, strengthen its energy grid, create jobs, and take advantage of a zero-cost fuel that is free from the volatility of global energy prices.”
