Network Celebrates Revolution Wind Project Approval

The Business Network for Offshore Wind, the leading organization working to accelerate offshore wind energy deployment and build a dedicated domestic supply chain, celebrates this announcement that clears the way for the Revolution Wind offshore wind project to begin construction. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) released a Record of Decision (ROD) for Ørsted and Eversource’s Revolution Wind project off the coast of Rhode Island, a project with an estimated capacity of 704 MW; under state agreements, the project will deliver 400 MW to Rhode Island and 304 MW to Connecticut and power nearly 250,000 homes.

The release of a ROD for the Revolution Wind project marks the nation’s fourth commercial scale offshore wind project to pass this final major regulatory milestone and brings the current U.S. pipeline of projects approved for construction to 2.7 GW of offshore wind energy. According to the Network’s analysis, more than 13 GW of projects await final environmental review. Today’s action also brings the Biden-Harris Administration closer to its goal of approving 16 environmental reviews before 2025.

The following statement can be attributed to Liz Burdock, founder and CEO of the Business Network for Offshore Wind.

“The Network applauds BOEM for creating a summer of success for the offshore wind industry through its advancement of multiple offshore wind projects, showcasing the federal government’s commitment to ensuring the industry is a foundation of the nation’s clean energy portfolio. The U.S. offshore wind industry is on the move; the steady stream of offshore wind project environmental reviews is critical to the success of supply chain investments, and today’s announcement bolsters investments in component production at ProvPort in Rhode Island, cable manufacturing in South Carolina, steel fabrication in western New York, and shipbuilding in Texas and Louisiana.”
